Mount St. Maryβs Is going dancing!
In a moment that will be remembered for years to come, Mount St. Maryβs menβs basketball team captured their first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship with a commanding 63β49 victory over Iona on March 15, 2025. The win, which took place at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, marked a major milestone for the program and solidified their return to the NCAA Tournament.
Led by first-year head coach Donny Lind, the Mountaineers entered the tournament as the sixth seed, but their performance throughout the week was anything but underdog-like. They knocked off higher-seeded teams with grit, poise, and a smothering defense that defined their championship run. Against a seasoned Iona squad, the Mount played with urgency and focus from the opening tip.
Standout performances fueled their title run. Dallas Hobbs led the way with 18 points and seven assists, orchestrating the offense with veteran composure. Dola Adebayo brought the energy on both ends of the floor, adding 15 points, while Arlandus Keyes chipped in 14 of his own. Jedy Cordilia was a force on the boards, pulling down 12 rebounds and anchoring the paint defensively.
What makes this win even more remarkable is the transformation the team underwent over the course of the season. After a shaky start, the Mountaineers found their rhythm late in the year, peaking at just the right time. Coach Lindβs emphasis on defense, ball movement, and team-first basketball paid off in a big way, culminating in a championship that Mount fans have long dreamed of.
With the MAAC title in hand, Mount St. Maryβs secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournamentβtheir seventh appearance in program history, but the first since joining the MAAC. The victory signals a new era for the program and a testament to what can happen when belief meets preparation.
Mount Mayhem is backβand theyβre dancing once again.
